DISCOVER CABECEIRAS DE BASTO: WHAT TO SEE, DO, WHERE TO EAT AND SLEEP

IN THE NORTH OF PORTUGAL, BETWEEN THE MOUNTAINS OF CABREIRA AND MARÃO, IN A WIDE VALLEY, ON THE BANK OF TÂMEGA RIVER, THERE IS ONE OF THE MOST ANCIENT AND HISTORICAL MUNICIPALITIES OF THE PROVINCE OF MINHO.

The foundations of this municipality’s identity extend over Nature, Culture, Sports, and Gastronomy, which in fact, may be simultaneously experienced.
In Cabeceiras de Basto, stand out the stunning and natural viewpoints, right in Cabreira mountain, that turn out to be real scenarios of a breath-taking view. And of course, there are trails to discover, slopes to go down and streams to explore.

Regarding the architectural and museological heritage, we highlight Moinhos de Rei (King’s Mills), Núcleo Ferroviário (Railway Unit), Casa da Lã (Wool Museum) and Casa do Tempo (Time Museum). There is also Mosteiro de S. Miguel de Refojos (Monastery of S. Miguel de Refojos), the municipality’s ex-libris and the jewel of the Portuguese Baroque, in the area of Basto. In the former sacristy of Mosteiro de S. Miguel de Refojos it is also possible to visit the Núcleo Museológico de Arte Sacra (Religious Art Museum Unit).
