ESTREMOZ, THE WHITE CITY OF ALENTEJO. THROUGH STREETS AND ALLEYS, A JOURNEY OF FRAGRANCES AND FLAVOURS, CRAFT, AND SCIENCE.
In the soft landscape, troubled by Serra D’ Ossa, there is the municipality of Estremoz. Carpeted by vineyards, forests of cork oak and holm oak and olive groves, it features marble quarries and white-washed houses. It integrates the so-called “Marble Region”, located in the heart of Central Alentejo.
The municipality is formed by nine civil parishes, populated by genuine and welcoming people. Land of kings and queens, it displays castles and monuments that witness its history.
Land of the figurative pottery, which is UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: figurines that portray natural elements, local activities and events, traditions, and popular devotions. Land of pottery and tiles, production of rattles, music, and museums. One of the city’s ex-libris is the traditional Saturday market: a unique experience of sounds, colours, fragrances, and flavours.
The characteristics of the soils and the weather enable the production of wines and olive oils of recognised quality. These productions are associated to the traditional gastronomy of Alentejo.
