The history of Tavira lies in time. Excavations made on the “genetic hill” show the presence of the Phoenicians and other people of antiquity. The Moorish occupation has also left its influences in agriculture, in culture and in the city’s urbanism. Promoted to city back in 1520, Tavira is a city with a plethora of churches, convents, hermitages, and chapels, full of nooks and charm, crossed by Rivers Gilão and Séqua, that provide a visit in the tranquillity of a mild climate.

Tavira owns a vast heritage. It is essential to enhance and to pass on the traditions and the characteristic values of the Mediterranean Diet – UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
