LEIRIA GUIDE: WHAT TO VISIT, DO, WHERE TO EAT AND SLEEP

DYNAMISM, NATURE AND HISTORY IN LEIRIA.

Between the Lis river and the Atlantic coast, Leiria surprises and proves to be much more than the beautiful medieval castle and the famous pine forest created by D. Dinis, the Farmer King. The city, although not very large, has a familiar and dynamic environment, result of the recent focus on its natural assets, taking advantage of the riverside areas, as well as sports and cultural activities.

There is, for example, the Leiria Run, a night event through the historic area, playful and accessible to all, and also the Leiria Fun Run with color baths and foam tunnel. Highlight also to the museums´ party, opening up to other activities in May, to the A Porta festival in June, to the great medieval festival and also the Sardine Festival in July, just to entice you.

From there, you have to discover the rest of the region. After all, you must also visit the schist village of Casal de São Simão, the Mira de Aire caves, the monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha, the Sanctuary of Fátima. And, finally, regain strength in one of the excellent restaurants in the region or just sweeten your mouth with wonderful Brisas do Liz, an egg-based sweetness, or a little ginginha – sour cherryliqueur – from Óbidos.
