A SURPRISING HISTORIC PATRIMONY
Oeiras has kept some really amazing historic patrimony that is worth being discovered. The Marquis of Pombal Palace is one of the most striking buildings in the council. The inside is covered with decorative works of art, namely stucco pieces and wall tiles, typical of the Marquis influenced artistic line. The palace gardens are a good example of environmental architecture in Portugal. The old Barcarena Gun Powder Factory is a place rich in history, as well as the Caxias Royal Manor, built between the eighteen and nineteen centuries and made famous for the rigorous drawing plans of its French influenced garden.
GREEN SPACES & ARTS
From among the sites that attract the most visitors, the Poets’ Park (Parque dos Poetas) strikes a note; a multiuse facility that connects poetry and art to nature and environment. The Park Angels (Parque Anjos) in Algés also associates the pleasure of a walk in the park to the curiosity of visiting an exhibition.
WALKS, SPORTS AND BEACHES
And if your coast is invariably the destination to where all paths end up leading to, your green zones, such as Jamor and its Sports Complex, are equally a good option for those that enjoy outdoor activities. The huge marine parade that extends along the coast all the way to Algés stands as an invitation for long walks and the practice of sport activities. During the summer there is a selection of beaches and great weather for bathing and sun tanning.
