Lisbon doesn’t only have a view to the river. In a city with seven hills, there are plenty of rooftops, restaurants and hotels, plus a handful of belvederes and terraces where you can eat and have a drink in great style and enjoy the many beauties of Lisbon as if they were all part of the art of escapade. Lisbon knows she’s beautiful and is only jealous of herself.
Belvederes and viewpoints from Graça to Jardim do Torel, Santo Estevão or Saint George’s Castle give you different sides of what Lisbon has to offer. The same with rooftop bars like Topo by Martim Moniz or the Arte Antiga National Museum by Janelas Verdes, among many others. Because lisboners love to chill out while looking at the glamorous and peaceful beauty of their city.
Here’s our list of the best places in Lisbon to enjoy the view and, while you’re at it, the great things in life.
CASCAIS, A VIEW TO THE OCEAN
Guides will tell you that Cascais is still a village of fishermen but since early 20th century it became the chosen paradise for the wealthy that gave way to amazing villas in a splendor of architecture that inspired a part of the district to be called ‘our Riviera’. Some of those houses in time turned into hotels and the place, specially Old Cascais continues to offer different viewpoints. Not high belevederes, mind you, but starting with the terrace of the Baía Hotel there are plenty a choices to relax and enjoy the landscape, mostly made of the joys of the Atlantic ocean. It goes on all the way to Guincho, including Boca do Inferno (Hell’s Mouth) or the Grand Real Villa Itália, and restaurants or bars with rooftops are present in large numbers.
Here’s our list of great places in Cascais where you can eat, drink and lose yourselves in selfies all day long while enjoying the marvelous views.
SINTRA, THE VIEW BEATS THE POSTCARD
From the foggy beauty of Serra of Sintra to the pure beaches of Ericeira, Maçãs, Praia Grande or Azenhas do Mar, Sintra love to show off her many wonders and most of the time that is done through a viewpoint. There’s no real myth about it: the district has so many stunning places to visit, mysterious roads and gorgeous houses, the incredible Palácio da Pena and the sheer delights of the historical center that you can find a great viewpoint from anywhere you are, even from the opposite side of the road… And there are hotels, restaurants and bares playing the part of belvederes and terraces in a considerable number.
There’s one place, though: the belvedere of Santa Eufemia. You go to the street of the same name, somehow lost among the trees, park by the chapel and walk till you find the cross. It’s a viewpoint to Lisbon, Oeiras, Cascais, Sintra herself and the immense ocean.
Here’s our list of the best places with unforgettable views in beautiful Sintra.
