We stayed three days in this Madeira refuge, with lots of charm and surrounded by fresh air. Do you want to hear about it?
Dated from 1920, recovered in 1999 and renovated in 2012 in order to attract visitors, its beauty and charm are captivating. And it takes advantage of the surrounding nature and the beauty of the main building.
Let’s see: it’s located in Santo da Serra, with golf courses very near (about 5 minutes, 400 meters away), which justifies the presence of the word in the name of the hotel. It is equally surrounded by places that invite to other activities such as horse riding, bycicle and walking trails (mainly in the traditional levadas), in the beautiful laurel forest, which in 1999 was classified World Heritage by UNESCO.
This charming 4 star hotel has 22 bedrooms, a living room with a fireplace (because it gets cold in the country), a traditional restaurant, a warm/covered pool, sauna, library, game room, gym and a video library with DVDs and CDs available for room use.
The guests have also the advantage of being able to enjoy some services of the Vila Porto Mare resort, in Funchal, among them the five pools, exterior and interior, the spa, the sports fields and a huge tropical garden, with 13 0000 square meters and more than 470 unique species.
Of the 22 available rooms there’s the suite, with capacity of up to 5 people, that almost resembles an apartment: besides the bedroom, includes living room with fireplace and dining room, direct access to the garden, kitchnet and two restrooms, one private and the other common.
There are also the superior bedrooms, in the main building, decorated with the style of the traditional Madeira farmhouses, and directed to a number of maximum 3 people, with bathroom with tub, and a reading nook; and the twin standard bedrooms, with the same conditions of the superior bedrooms but with a simpler decoration.
The hotel’s restaurant serves the oldest recipes of Madeira cuisine, with fresh quality products, and a touch of exotic ingredients. Besides this main restaurant there’s also “Avó Micas”, which opened on the spot where before we could find the Santo da Serra tea house and where the breakfast is served, with home specialities and a meal menu for dinner, which includes those traditional recipes.
The hotel decoration is simple, with light tones, but refined and very charming. A perfect combination between Nature and confort, for reinvigorating vacations.
