There is a reason for Lisbon to be one of the most popular touristic destinations: by the Atlantic shores, there is a small paradise with about 300 days of Sun per year. Even during the cold season, temperatures are fair. Lisbon has become a city where unique experiences are at your reach, even while still enjoying the cold. Accept our challenge and start discovering it by yourself.
Strolling by Lisbon’s Baixa
Even when it’s cold, Lisbon remains a beautiful and cozy city. From Castilho Street to Avenida da Liberdade, the air is filled with the luxurious and high class scents of several international brands, like Prada, Armani, Louis Vuitton and Gucci among others. The Tivoli Forum is a unique space, very well appointed, with a classic contemporary touch. The Armazéns do Chiado department store is one of the more emblematic places and a meeting point for several nationalities. There is always something going on and many foreigners.
Tasting chefs’ cuisine or Portuguese food
Lisbon has several Michelin star-rated restaurants, such as the Alma, in Chiado, where the Portuguese chef Henrique Sá Pessoa welcomes us in an elegant and classic ambient. In Cascais, at Fortaleza do Guincho, you can taste gourmet meals in a privileged sea view setting.
Flying over Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra
Man does not live from gourmet restaurants alone, but also from unique and different experiences. You can now fly in a helicopter over Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra, in an unforgettable and luxurious trip, with a panoramic view of the city. The cold does not have to be an impediment on your path to happiness.
On your way to Sintra, the romantic town
Lisbon is a city that you can fall in love with, but there is nothing like the romantic atmosphere of Sintra, right next door. On cold days, the Pena Park and Palace and the Quinta da Regaleira, covered in a mystic and mysterious mist, provide an unforgettable experience. There are many reference points of incomparable natural beauty along the several paths that crisscross the area. The Moors’ Castle, a must for those that want to know Sintra, is an iconic place. Make a stop by the Piriquita and enjoy a delicious ‘travesseiro’, a local pastry.
Relaxing moments at the Spa
Cold days ask for warm, relaxing baths. And there is nothing like spending a few good moments at the Epic Sana Lisboa Hotel and take advantage of the spa and indoor pool overlooking the botanical garden. Special distinction goes to the Banyan Tree Spa in Cascais, where the tempting holistic treatments from Asian origins are the highlight.
Strolling along the boardwalk or by the sea shore
To go to Lisbon and not seeing the Ocean is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. If we can use the beach during the summertime, why not also profit from it during the cold days? To walk along the coast can be very rewarding, just as it is to live in a country with a capital located right by the sea. You can stroll along the boardwalk from Oeiras to Cascais, and even practice outdoor activities and sports. Bring your pets.
Visit museums and cutural centers
Belém Cultural Center is a reference in Portuguese culture. If you can’t miss an artistic display, the Berardo Collection Museum has modern and contemporary art collections, performances, and you can even do some shopping. Other of lisboners favorites is the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum; take advantage to see art displays or have a snack, while looking at the gardens, the prettiest in the entire city.
The coffee shops
There is no lack of coffee shops throughout Lisbon’s streets, and nothing like stopping by one of them and sweeten your taste buds with one of the famous ‘pastéis de Belém’. At Chiado, don’t miss the opportunity to have a coffee in the company of Fernando Pessoa, at Café A Brasileira.
Tram rides
Is it cold? Board Tram 28, seat down comfortably and ride through some of Lisbon’s traditional neighborhoods – Estrela, Chiado, Sé, Portas do Sol, Graça and Anjos: a 40 minute trip with many photos.
With our suggestions, there is no longer a motive to spend the cold days without a plan. Take the time to spend some good moments and unique experiences in this little Atlantic paradise.
