Where to eat in Azambuja: the best restaurants

Known as “Bread Land” (“Terras de Pão“) or “Torricado Land” (“Terra do Torricado“, a slightly toasted bread served in broth), it becomes rather obvious that Azambuja has a gastronomic tradition with its own personality. With a deep connection to the land and the river, the best kitchens in the municipality fill up their pots and pans with choice garlic, olive oil, vegetables and produce, along with a selection of freshwater fishes such as the eel, the lamprey and the shad. The most popular dish, however, is the “Grilled Cod Torricado”. All meals are served along with the delicious homemade bread, the famous Maçussa cheese and the good local wine.
